Gavel Passes on December
4th
The gavel will pass to incoming Chamber
president, Jason Penrod, of Weaver, McClendon
& Penrod, on Friday, December 4th, at the
'Holiday Luncheon & Annual Meeting'.
Held at the Lake Wales Country Club beginning
at 11:30 a.m., the festive affair will kick-off
the Christmas season for Chamber members and their
guests...

Luncheon Speaker
 Beginning a 'Year
of Focus on Literacy', the Lake Wales
Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce
that the Friday, November 20th membership
luncheon will be sponsored by the Lake Wales
Family Literacy Academy. The event will also
feature a special guest speaker, Jeb Bush,
Jr.

Oct. 27th
'After-Hours'
The Else Group, an interior
design firm at 213 E. Stuart
Avenue, will sponsor the Chamber's next
'Business-After-Hours' reception on
Tuesday, October 27th, from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Owner
Barbara Else and her team of sales associates
will showcase many great fall items for the home
and office, while members enjoy seasonal
foods and beverages.

'Mexican Fiesta'
Business-After-Hours Nov. 10th
The law offices of Weaver, McClendon &
Penrod will sponsor the Chamber's
'Business-After-Hours' reception on Tuesday,
November 10th, from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Their annual
'Mexican Fiesta' is a favorite, featuring
authentic Mexican foods and beverages.

Durso Award Recognizes
Business Excellence
 Three Lake Wales
businesses, including Bunting, Tripp &
Ingley, Bob Evans Restaurant and Polk State
College, received the "Carl F. Durso Excellence
in Business Award" at a special luncheon hosted
by the Lake Wales Area Chamber of Commerce on
Friday, September 18th.

Empty
Bowls 'After-Hours'
an Annual Treat
 The Lake Wales Chamber of
Commerce's 'Business-After-Hours' reception on
October 13th was sponsored by the Lake Wales
Care Center and drew a large crowd into the
Marketplace in historic downtown Lake
Wales. Support for the annual 'Empty
Bowls' Celebrity Auction and Silent Auction
was again tremendous.

Golf Challenge a
Success
The team sponsored by Florida's
Natural Growers was the low gross winner at the
Chamber's 2009 Golf Challenge at the Lake Wales
Country Club on Friday, October 9th.
With a field of 104 golfers, the event
raised just over $13,100 to help the Chamber
carryout its programs to benefit the Lake Wales
area community.

Center Technology Services
Recognized
The B Street Community Center was
recognized last month by the Polk County School
District for the outstanding
technology services it provided to its
participants in 2009.
The Lake Wales center received
the "Shining Star Community Technology Center
Partnership Award 2009", recognizing its popular
computer classes - which average over 100 logins
per month - as well as the internet access and
help provided to attendees.
