Art appreciation creative and performing arts begin at the elementary school level where students have opportunities to sing play the violin and express their creativity through the visual arts. Hillcrest Elementary has a ne arts focus with classes in painting drawing ceramics art history graphic arts dance steel drums strings piano and chorus. McLaughlin Middle Fine Arts Academy offers a state-recognized program in drama the performing arts visual arts and dance. The Polk State College Lake Wales Art Center offers for-credit art classes in addition to gallery exhibits and musical performances. The Lake Wales Arts Council a crew of committed volunteers has made it a mission to build a community where art and culture thrive. It organizes community events recruits artists and even helps children with decorations for the Fourth of July bike parade
